The Minnesota Water Stewards (formerly Master Water Stewards) certification program offers a great opportunity for you to join a local network of energized leaders and tackle environmental problems in your community. The Vermillion River Watershed has been sponsoring this program since 2016 and has seen first-hand, the impact that our stewards have make in the Watershed.

This training course, based on the successful Master Gardener and Master Naturalist programs, teaches people how to keep water clean in their neighborhoods.

This program offers:
  • Training from top water resource professionals
  • Skills to become an effective community leader
  • A fun, social network of like-minded people
To date, stewards across the metro have connected with more than 1,000 people through outreach and educational events, and have installed rain gardens, rain barrels, cisterns, erosion control prevention, and pollinator habitat. Every year, their efforts prevent more than 1.2 million gallons of polluted stormwater and over 500 pounds of sediment from entering our lakes, rivers, and streams.
