What sparked your interest in becoming a member of the Watershed Planning Commission?

I had citizens of my township asking me about some water issues on their land. Another member of the planning commission asked me to think about joining as he was getting off the commission.

Most interesting thing you’ve learned so far on the WPC?

This watershed has more land than I thought it had in it.

What is your current employment?

Retired

Other organizations you belong to?

I’m the Vice-Chair of Board of Supervisors of Castle Rock Township, Chair of the North Cannon River Watershed Management Organization Board, and a member of the Cannon River Watershed Joint Powers Board.

Hobbies?

I volunteer at Dakota City Heritage village. This is a 1900’s village located on the Dakota County Fairgrounds. I’m also a board member of the Castle Rockers Travel Club. I like to travel as there is so much of the world to see and so much to learn.

Family?

I have been married for 52 years, have 2 children and 3 grandchildren.

Anything else you’d like to add?

Every living thing needs 4 things to live: Food, air, shelter and water. I work for clean water.

A game to play with children I learned in 4-H a long time ago is to have children number off 1, 2, 3, 4 and then say number 1 is water, etc. Then have them get in circle, turn to right, put hands on shoulders of person in front of you and sit on the knees of the person behind you. Then say all number 1’s get out of circle. Then say the circle falls apart and this is what happens to the environment if we don’t take care of it.

I finished my 4-year degree at age 60 and it has helped me with all of the organizations I belong to today.
