Dakota County completed a stream bank restoration project on the Vermillion Park Conservation Area (PCA) in Empire Township this summer. The VRWJPO provided funding for the project design and construction oversight as well as staff time for project management and coordination. Construction began in May but was primarily done from late July through early September due to early summer rains. Bank improvements were completed on nine reaches of the river in the PCA and on adjacent private landowner property to stabilize the stream and eliminate a meander cut-off. Live staking of the banks was finished in late October to provide additional vegetation and stabilization.
