Clean Water Summit 2016 @ Minnesota Landscape Arboretum

The 2016 Clean Water Summit will feature up-to-date information and research about green infrastructure for redevelopment and retrofit sites. The conference will focus on innovation in project planning, developing partnerships, engaging the community, design and installation, monitoring, and operations and maintenance. Speakers include Howard Neukrug, PE, former Commissioner and CEO of Philadelphia Water Services, and Rob Traver, Ph.D., Director and Researcher, Villanova Urban Stormwater Partnership. General registration is $80, $70 for Arboretum members and conference affiliates, and includes admission, lunch, and coffee breaks. Minnesota StarWatch at Whitetail Woods @ Whitetail Woods Regional Park

Dakota County Parks and the Minnesota Institute of Astrophysics bring the night sky to life. Astronomer Mike Lynch presents a short talk and slide show on our solar system. If weather allows, attendees can view the sky through multiple 8-inch reflecting telescopes. The Institute staff also provides free star maps and shows visitors how to use them. Cost of the presentation is $10 per person and registration is required.

Vermillion Stewards: Landscape for the River @ Angry Inch Brewery

Join the Vermillion Stewards and Friends of the Mississippi River (FMR) in exploring landscape for the river in a workshop on native plants, raingardens, lawn and sidewalk care, and other methods of protecting and improving water quality in the Vermillion River. The workshop takes place in a new venue for the Vermillion Stewards — The Angry Inch Brewery in Lakeville, 20841 Holyoke Ave., a new taproom serving “Angry beer for happy people.” Sample the suds while learning how to turn your backyard into a river friendly force for clean water. Topics include how to reduce runoff from sidewalk salt, landscape with native plants, install a rain barrel, compost yard waste, and create your own raingarden. Vermillion River Watershed Technical Advisory Group (TAG) @ Dakota County Western Service Center

The Vermillion River Watershed Technical Advisory Group (TAG) provides advice and recommendations to the Vermillion River Watershed Joint Powers Organization (VRWJPO) on scientific, technical, and policy issues that affect water resources management in the Vermillion River Watershed.  TAG members represent local governments (cities, townships, and counties), state agencies, soil and water conservation districts, tribes, environmental consulting firms, environmental groups, watershed management organizations, the Vermillion River Watershed Planning Commission (WPC), and other interested parties. Membership is open and flexible; contact the VRWJPO to be included on the email invitation list.
